The President of the Republic of the Fiji Islands, Ratu Epeli Nailatikau, visited The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ Church College in Suva last Friday [21 February 2013].
President Ratu Epeli spoke to students and staff about health challenges facing many people in Fiji, including HIV/AIDS.
During a question and answer period, one student shared with President Ratu Epeli that Latter-day Saints had high moral standards, including chastity before marriage and faithfulness to one’s wife or husband after marriage.
President Ratu Epeli commended the student and encouraged all in attendance to follow the teachings of the Church as this will help them individually as well as strengthen the entire nation.
The Fiji Government is involved in educating youth about health challenges, and this visit was one of many that the President is making to schools throughout the country.
“We are very grateful for His Excellency’s visit and his encouragement to our students and all of us,” said school principal Tipo Solomone.
“As a school and as a church we teach our young people and all of our members to follow the example and commandments of Jesus Christ, including the need to keep our minds and bodies morally clean.”
