Brother Max Checketts grew up around the west, in Utah, Arizona and Colorado. He attended Ricks College for a semester and continued his education, earning bachelor and master’s degrees from Brigham Young University in animal science. He holds a doctorate from Utah State University in animal science with a doctoral minor in statistics.
In 1992, Bother Checketts was named chairman of the Division of Agriculture and in 1994 became the assistant academic vice president for instruction. While in this role, he also served as interim director of Information Technology for two years.
Brother Checketts was Academic Vice President at BYU-Idaho from 2002 until 2008. He has been an accreditation evaluator for the Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges for nine years, conducting evaluations in Alaska, Oregon, Washington, Utah, Nevada and British Columbia Canada. Brother Checketts serves as a member of the Church Educational Shared Services Committee.
Brother Checketts has served as Academic Vice President at BYU-Hawaii since April, 2008. He previously served as a campus bishop, counselor in the stake presidency, stake missionary three times and served in other various church positions. He is currently the Gospel Doctrine teacher in his ward and temple ordinance worker in the Laie Hawaii Temple.
He met his wife, Donna, in Provo. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on May 4, 1978. They are the parents of 6 children and 12 grandchildren.
His hobbies include family, reading and farming.
